Environmentally Friendly Marketing

11 February 2013

An important aspect of any business is to think carefully about the impact you are having on the environment. There are a number of steps you can take to cut down on your carbon footprint. Here are some tips you can use for a more environmentally-friendly business:

  1. Reduce the amount of paper you use: We’re all guilty of printing out items such as emails and ‘spare copies’ that we don’t really need and this can be easily cut down. As well as the printing and photocopying that you do in the office, you can also reduce the amount of printed materials that you use in your marketing campaigns. For example, instead of giving customers printed discount vouchers you can send them promotions via mobile in the form of an email or SMS. This ensures that your customers are still receiving the same great offers but with a minimal impact on natural resources. The same can be said for such marketing methods as distributing leaflets and flyers that often end up going to waste. You can send out the same information via email or SMS instead.
  2. Make use of digital technology for communication: Email and SMS are both handy tools to use for communicating with clients and business partners alike. Other methods such as web chat and instant messaging are also incredibly useful and often cut down on the need to embark on business trips across country and overseas. This will save you money as well as reducing emissions.
  3. Donate to a charity: A great way to help to do your bit for the environment is to regularly donate to a charity. Examples of well-known charities that care for the environment include Greenpeace, WWF and The Woodland Trust. You could also opt for some smaller charities that are closer to home. Is there a local charity in your area that could benefit from your support? Every small donation counts and it can also reveal a more sensitive and personal side to your company as well as helping to promote your business.
  4. Economically transform your office: Not only will this save you a lot of money, you are helping to look after the environment. Try installing energy saving light bulbs that detect movement, use office equipment that is made from recycled materials and ensure that your staff turn off electrical appliances when they are not in use.
