TextAnywhere Foundation pleased to donate to PKD Charity

10 April 2014

PKD Charity is the only charity in the UK dedicated to the concerns of people affected by Polycystic Kidney Disease [PKD], which is a range of inherited, incurable, renal conditions.  The Charity was set up in 2000 by a collection of patients, professionals and members of families affected by PKD.

TextAnywhere recently met with Tess Harris, CEO – PKD Charity, to present her with our Foundation donation. Tess told us that “there are over 12 million children and adults worldwide who are living with PKD conditions, and about 70,000 of those adults and children are in the UK.  PKD conditions can cause renal [kidney] failure and affect other organs in the body too. This is a life debilitating disease and the effects on the patient can be overwhelming.”

Tess went on to explain, “the PKD Charity helps patients and families alike with support and information. We are there when they need someone to turn to. We also work hard to fight for better care, research funding and improved treatment for PKD sufferers.” She added “many of us within the charity have PKD, so we know what it’s like to feel low and tired waiting for your next dialysis or treatment. We have first-hand experience with how patients are dealt with in hospitals, the waiting times, and the lack of research. We appreciate the bigger picture and we’re trying to do something about it.”

“We’re very grateful for this donation from TextAnywhere. We will use it within our general funds to help the running of the charity, preparing newsletters and spread the word further and wider” Tess concluded.

As a socially responsible organisation, TextAnywhere runs a series of charitable initiatives through the Foundation, and our donation to the PKD Charity has been offered as part of our 2013 Foundation commitment.  The monies raised will go towards the funding required to provide general outbound information services of the PKD Charity.
